Summary
This article applies to the following:
- BlackBerry® Desktop Software 3.6 through 4.0
- Microsoft® Exchange
- IBM® Lotus® Domino®

Problem
You install BlackBerry Desktop Software. The first time you open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, it closes unexpectedly.
Cause 1
The COM components are not correctly registered.
Resolution
Register the COM components.
- Open a command prompt by clicking Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
- Type the following:
cd c:\program files\common files\research in motion\rimdevicemanager
- Press ENTER.
- Type the following:
rimdevicemanager /regserver
- Press ENTER.
- Type the following:
regsvr32 rimdevicemanagerps.dll
- Press ENTER.
- Type the following:
exit
- Click Start > Run.
- Type the following:
regsvr32 oleaut32.dll
- Click OK.
- Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
Cause 2
The BlackBerry Desktop Manager software is corrupt.
Resolution
Perform a clean uninstall of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager followed by a reinstallation of the latest version of the software. See Support Knowledge Base article KB-02206 for more informaton.
