Summary

 

This article applies to the following:

     

  • BlackBerry® Desktop Software 3.6 through 4.0
  • Microsoft® Exchange
  • IBM® Lotus® Domino®

Problem

 

You install BlackBerry Desktop Software. The first time you open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, it closes unexpectedly.

 

Cause 1

The COM components are not correctly registered.

 

Resolution

Register the COM components.

     

  1. Open a command prompt by clicking Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
  2. Type the following:

    3. cd c:\program files\common files\research in motion\rimdevicemanager

  3. Press ENTER.
  4. Type the following:

    5. rimdevicemanager /regserver

  5. Press ENTER.
  6. Type the following:

    7. regsvr32 rimdevicemanagerps.dll

  7. Press ENTER.
  8. Type the following:

    9. exit

  9. Click Start > Run.
  10. Type the following:

    11. regsvr32 oleaut32.dll

  11. Click OK.
  12. Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.

 

Cause 2

The BlackBerry Desktop Manager software is corrupt.

 

Resolution

Perform a clean uninstall of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager followed by a reinstallation of the latest version of the software. See Support Knowledge Base article KB-02206 for more informaton.

You can get the latest version of BlackBerry Desktop Manager from your service provider’s website.
